Reviewing our experience at Retail’s Big Show 2019 in New York

In January we were proud to exhibit at the 2019 NRF: Retail’s Big Show, held at the Javits Convention Centre in New York. We collaborated with our partners Cisco and Avery Dennison to bring live demonstrations of our mobile self-checkout technology to the circa 37,000 show attendees.

Our collaboration with Cisco was based on the concept of ‘Stop, Shop & Go’, with a wide selection of items available for dummy purchase on the stand. We integrated our mobile self-checkout with Avery Dennison RFID security tags and a Nedap !D Top RFID reader which allowed us to demonstrate a pure scan-pay-leave solution; when an item was purchased, our patent-pending technology passed this information to the inventory database, and we then disabled the security tag on the individual item that had been bought – enabling the shopper to leave the store without the security alarm being triggered. This loss prevention method ensured that when a theft was attempted, any items that had not been purchased were picked up by the ceiling-mounted RFID sensor, alerting staff.

We also integrated with the Cisco Meraki cameras; this enabled store security video to display on a TV screen at the exit when an attempted theft had been made. These integrations were similar to those we have completed at the Cisco Innovation Store in San Jose.

At the Avery Dennison booth our team were able to explain more about the hardware involved in an RFID enabled deployment, and demonstrate how our mobile scan and go solution can be integrated with retailers’ existing systems to create a seamless customer journey in bricks and mortar stores. Avery Dennison are market leaders in the field of RFID tags, which can be used by retailers for both loss prevention and inventory management, so the resources on the stand enabled us to demonstrate exactly what is involved in creating a frictionless scan and go experience for shoppers.

It was fascinating to see such a wide array of solutions at the show that were focussed on improving the customer experience in physical retail stores. 2019 is sure to be an exciting year in retail technology and the adoption of solutions that make in-store shopping smoother and simpler for shoppers.

Keep an eye on our events page for details of the next event at which we’re demonstrating our technology.
